Bookshelf to match
Sean Flanagan was in the midst of a hallway revamp. With a relatively narrow space, he was looking for a bookshelf that could replace the ginormous one already taking up so much space, to store his wife’s cookbooks and other books.
This sounds like a straightforward task, except they wanted a sister piece to the unit on the other side of the hallway, to ‘complete’ the look and feel of the entrance to their home. Even with extensive research, finding something of the same timber, height, module size and so on, was going to be a tricky feat.
That was until Cutshop came into the picture.
Experience and a helping hand
Being an architect himself, Sean was accustomed to DIY and having an eye for building furniture. Most of the cabinetry in their home he’d put together himself - this bookshelf being the 5th or 6th piece. He had a goal in mind and knew he’d need to work with other visionaries who could help him make the right kind of bookshelf.
“[This project was] something simple, with very fine details. Cutshop has the machines to do it and make everything dimensionally accurate.”
After presenting his designs to the Cutshop team in Mt Wellington, the ideas were swiftly turned into a project, and the wood was prepared for Sean to put together. When asked to summarise his experience with Cutshop, Sean says he was ‘enamoured’ throughout the entire process.
“With Cutshop, it’s not just cutting wood. Behind it, there is design expertise. They bring a level of intelligence.”
No detail left untouched
From using their expertise to draw everything, right through to handing over the sanded, sealed wood to be assembled, each step ran so smoothly from start to finish.
Sean said what made it even more ideal was the knowledge the Cutshop team could share in relation to shelves and side panels locking together, junctions and other intricate details that regular cabinet and shelf providers may possibly overlook.
