Combine style, affordability and practicality with a ‘Murphy bed’

Whatever the reason, more and more people are searching for creative ways to maximise on space in their homes.

A murphy bed is a bed that is stored vertically against the wall. Often they're tucked away in cabinets, closets - or even bookshelves.

They've been around since the 1920's, but recently they've enjoyed a surge in popularity as people look to make the most from the space they have available. Generally, they're fitted with a standard mattress, and the bed frames are made with the wood that matches the wall or shelves where it's stored.

They can be used to turn a study or separate living area into a welcoming space for guests. When they're tucked away, you wouldn't even know they were there - adding a real air of mystery as the wall folds down to reveal a plush mattress.

If you're keen to jump on this trend, we can help. Whether you want it in your camper, home, or rental, Cutshop can work with you to discuss your requirements. It's great if you can do a bit of research first. There's a lot of info online about making your own murphy bed - including this awesome YouTube tutorial.

You might choose to add a wardrobe, cupboards or extra shelving to fit books - it's completely up to you. We have a variety of wood types and colours you can choose from to match your style. You can buy the hardware by searching for kits online. These DIY kits usually sit around the $300 mark, but aren't essential.

An alternative, more cost-effective option is to purchase individual boat seat swivels for around $15 each. You can also install gas pistons to make it easier to push the bed into place. They can be purchased for around $20. Again, there's plenty of information online about installing these.

Cutshop can help make the process simple by cutting to size and pre-drilling construction holes, so all that's left to do is put it together.

Go on then, what are you waiting for?
