What is contract cutting?
Contract cutting is a manufacturing service where you supply the measurements and Cutshop® does all the cutting for you. No factory required. Whether you're a homeowner with a renovation underway, a cabinet maker needing overflow capacity, or a builder who just needs panels ready to go — you send the specs, we cut everything to size and ship it out. It's how tradespeople and DIYers across Auckland and the Waikato get factory-quality results without owning factory equipment. You get the output without the overhead.

CNC cutting uses computer-controlled machines to cut sheet material with software-guided precision. Every panel comes out at exactly the size specified — clean edges, consistent results, zero human error. Beyond straight cuts, CNC machines handle curves, complex profiles, interlocking joints, pockets, and grooves — shapes that are impossible to replicate accurately by hand. Manual cutting introduces variation across a full kitchen or joinery fit-out that compounds with every piece. CNC cutting eliminates that entirely — the first panel and the fiftieth come out identical. Cutshop® runs large-format CNC machines capable of handling intricate profiles, complex shapes, and high-volume production runs without a drop in accuracy.
-
Laser edging (sometimes called laser edgebanding) is a bonding process that activates a polymer layer built into the edgeband tape using a laser, fusing it to the panel edge without traditional adhesive. The joint is near-invisible, highly moisture-resistant, and more durable than standard edgebanding methods that rely on hot melt glue. Over time, glue-based edgebanding can yellow, lift at the edges, or allow moisture ingress — laser edging avoids all of that. At Cutshop®, edgebanding is applied after cutting so every panel leaves the factory finished, faced, and installation-ready.
-
Cut and clash is a cabinetry and joinery trade term for panel optimisation. Software calculates how to lay out every piece across your sheet material to minimise waste across a full job. Instead of cutting panels one at a time and discarding offcuts, cut and clash nests every component across the available sheet area before a single cut is made. At Cutshop®, this is built into the CNC workflow as standard. Less waste means lower material costs, and smarter sheet usage means faster turnaround.
-
Pre-drilling means Cutshop® drills hinge cups, shelf pin holes, and handle fixings into your panels before they're delivered, using the same CNC precision as the cut itself. When panels arrive on site, assembly is straightforward. No measuring, no marking out, no going back to fix a misplaced hinge cup. Combined with CNC cutting and edgebanding, the product that arrives is ready to assemble.

What file formats does Cutshop®
accept for precision CNC cutting?
Cutshop® works with DXF files as the preferred format for CNC cutting jobs.
For straightforward cut to size orders (rectangular panels to specified dimensions) no design file is needed at all.
If you have rough drawings or sketches that always helps communicate your ideas.
The most important thing to bring is measurements. If you supply the measurements, Cutshop® can handle the rest.

Yes. Cutshop® can supply high-quality European hardware including hinges, drawer runners, and handles, to accompany your order.
