For the Arcade Addict

For the client, Logan Joblin, inspiration came in the shape of a mid-century, modern inspired, arcade cabinet. Something that looks like it would have been right at home in the 1960s or 70s but infused with modern technology.

It all began as a lockdown project in 2020, Logan had been browsing online when the idea suddenly popped into his head and he had to pursue it. Throughout the build, friends and family really loved what he was doing and Logan knew that if the interest was there, he could keep making more and refining the designs.

Logan approached the team at Cutshop Waikato, based in Hamilton, once he had his designs for the prototype pretty well nailed down. He was searching for a supplier who could ideally consult on the designs and make sure they were both ready to cut as well as supply and provide guidance on the wood options and finishes available. Cutshop ticked all those boxes.

It was a great straightforward and transparent process. All my questions were answered quickly and with as much detail as I needed to understand the process. Obviously, the result couldn’t have been anywhere near as good if I had tried to do something like cut these at home with a sawhorse and jigsaw, the precision is a godsend!
— Logan Joblin

For Logan, the finished project turned out exactly like his 3d renderings and looks great. It took a year for it all to come together but the result is perfect. For anyone with an idea brewing, Logan says “the transition from 3d designs to .dxf files that can be cut and will be able to be assembled is a big step, and having help to cross that that threshold is really useful. That and understanding the tolerances of CNC and Laser cut parts is really important.”.
