Dream kitchen.

A dream kitchen full of personality!

Kitchen designs are often a reflection of the setting in which the home is located or represents the personalities and style of the people who design them.

For client Ben Thomson, he wanted to create a kitchen that was interesting, bold, unique and made from quality materials.

Ben knew it was important to get the right material for the cabinetry, material that was solid and long lasting.

Choosing carcass grade ply for the cabinet frames fitted that brief, which was then ‘picture framed’ with an exposed edge ply, a look that Ben particularly liked.

An HPL Ply was chosen for all the doors and drawer fronts in part because the ply is hard wearing but also because Ben really liked the denim colour they could choose.

Initially Ben started laying out some ideas with a friend and spent a lot of time thinking about how the space is lived in and used for cooking.

They wanted to minimise walking a big distance in the  ‘galley style’ space and also allow the space to interact with the dining room and deck area.

These ideas revealed that they had some spare or undefined space and consequently incorporated a coffee station with its own sink for cleaning.

Cutshop was recommended to Ben by his sister, an architect. He liked the idea of being able to build the kitchen himself, partly for the satisfaction but also enjoyed being able to achieve a result of a much more expensive kitchen but paying much less for it.

Our point of contact in Cutshop North Shore was fantastic. We turned up with a plan of where things would go, thinking we had it sorted. But they went into another level of detail that we feel really made a difference to the overall look and feel of the space.

For Ben, Cutshop made the process easy by providing a kit set, timber, screws and hardware which Ben was particularly pleased with;

“working with such good hardware (Blum) was extremely satisfying as its all so well engineered and thought out. It genuinely made me happy to work with their products.”

I have already recommended Cutshop to my friends as I was so pleased with the experience and the outcome. Before starting there was a touch of anxiety about being able to get a result that I would be happy with but Cutshop’s system and cutting is so good, its hard to build a wonky cabinet
