Kathy Cumming wouldn't describe herself as a creative soul, but after walking through her home on Great Barrier Island you'd certainly disagree.
The mother of one engaged Cutshop® last year to help bring her kitchen plans to life.
She knew how she wanted her kitchen to function - where she'd put her cutlery, appliances, and food.
“I had previously been living in a house where the kitchen was small and lacked space - in particular it had very little bench space - and I wanted somewhere that I wouldn’t feel boxed in while cooking.”
She'd been working with another company on her design, but when she heard about Cutshop through a friend, she picked up the phone.
“They were amazing, they were like ‘yes we hear you, yes no problem, yes we can totally do it’.
If it hadn’t been easy I probably wouldn’t have faced opening the dialogue with a whole new company, but they made it really easy.”
Kathy says getting the right kitchen was very important to her - as a solo mother to whom good food is important, it's where she spends alot of her day.
She chose birch ply with bamboo tops following Cutshop’s recommendation.
“I just said I wanted a really simple kitchen - but also one that wasn’t sterile, where everything wasn’t hidden. I like to see jars and crockery and condiments and so on; Cutshop’s open shelves work really well for that.
My child and I are eating really well and I’m enjoying cooking and cleaning my kitchen - it’s a beautiful place to be.”
Kathy says she's had plenty of positive feedback from friends and family. She was so happy with the process that she also ordered timber for her laundry cupboard and her daughter's built-in wardrobe.
Friends of hers did the installation, which took just a few days. The Cutshop team was on hand to answer any questions.
