Coffee-to-go fit-out

We caught up with Jim Stuckey recently to hear about their coffee-to-go business, KŌTARE MĀRE Rural Coffee Stop, following a kitchen fitout courtesy of the team at Cutshop® Waikato.

Retiring to the beautiful Te Aroha earlier this year to a section in the countryside boasting views of Mt Te Aroha, Jim and his wife Jenny fancied a coffee-to-go as a good way to keep busy and connected with the farming community.

The week occupied by recovering from a knee replacement confirmed the viability of the idea as Jim spent the week counting the number of cars passing their front gates from 6am through midday. Located close (but not too close) to the junction of SH26 and SH27 meant the flow of traffic was healthy for these budding coffee entrepreneurs.

A quick visit to the council, and next minute the cabin, built to measure from the ground up on site (thanks to their son Cameron), needed a cut-to-size kitchen fitout. Which is where Cutshop® got involved.

The reason why they chose Cutshop® is that they needed a kitchen built to exact specifications.

We need the space for two people to work without getting in each other’s way and easy access to the storage spaces. We’re running two fridges so needed to sneak a bar fridge in under the counter amongst an assortment of open shelving and closed cabinets. I wouldn’t change a thing!

The kitchen arrived flat pack so Jim commandeered the garage, laying all the cut-to-size panels and drawer and door hardware out in their relevant piles.

He admits to having a moment of apprehension (“what do I know about assembling and installing kitchen cabinets?”) before pulling out the electric drill and getting to work!

Once all the units were assembled, Jim found a small issue with the back panel of the drawers making them difficult to assemble.

I called the team at Cutshop® to explain what I’d found, and they sorted the issue the very next day. In fact, they even assembled the drawers for me, for which I was very grateful.

An extra set of hands from Cameron got the cabinets out of the garage and into the coffee shop with all the necessary kitchen appliances and the like. The original oak timberland melamine panels complete the look and feel that includes a verandah and bench seat to have a chat as you wait for your coffee to be brewed.

How do I feel about the service from Cutshop®? We’re really pleased with the way it looks! A solid 9/10 from me. I’d absolutely recommend Cutshop® to other business owners needing a fitout.

If you’re travelling up or down the Coromandel / Matamata corridor and need a coffee and bite to eat, we recommend you look up Jim and Jenny at Kōtare Māra Rural Coffee Stop.
