Craft lover’s cabinet

Marj Ussher from Auckland is a keen craftswoman, with a large array of mixed medium crafts she loves to work with. However, recently, she started to get a little frustrated at the fact that whenever she wanted a particular item, it would be a bit tricky to locate because everything was in a different drawer or place in the house.

She wanted to get herself a cabinet of some kind that would be able to keep everything together in an organised and aesthetically pleasing way.

An avid Pinterest lover, Marj did some online scouting of cabinets and storage units that may be of use to host her crafts, and came across a design in the USA that she instantly fell in love with. It was called ‘dream time’ and featured a drop-down table and multiple drawers.

Excited about her discovery, she did some investigating but was not so excited to then see the $3,000 USD price tag for one cabinet.

Marj suggested to her husband that perhaps they could make their own version in NZ to save time and money, but after sending their ideas to a cabinet maker, three days later Marj was even more blown sideways to receive an $8,000 NZD quote.

Right on their doorstep

Having her very own cabinet seemed like a bit of a pipe dream, as it was a relatively unique design that she had not come across in New Zealand, and now understood would supposedly cost a fortune to replicate.

There was one thing left to do, and that was to try and find someone who could simply cut the wood and provide the materials for Marj and her husband to fix up. They even revised their design by half the size!

A search online for cutting and edging services led the two of them to Cutshop, which they were surprised to see was right on their doorstep!

A stunning saving

The measurements and design of the cabinet were taken to Dave from Cutshop North Shore and he swiftly agreed to take on the project, coming back with possible ideas for materials (such as using acrylic in particular parts of the cabinet to make it lighter in weight), and, the best part, putting forward a quote of only $927!

The turnaround time was highly efficient and it’s safe to say that Marj was pleasantly overwhelmed with the whole thing. Not only did she save megabucks, but the detailing was on point, the timing was perfect, and she didn’t have to worry about putting it all together, either!

It just blends in with everyday furniture and the room it’s in. The usage is perfect. It’s affordable, and there are plenty of other women out there who would probably want one too!

Cutshop has a team that produces incredibly good work, and understands what the client needs. The outcome of your design was able to be interpreted easily. No job is too big or small for Cutshop!
