DIY kitchen renovation

We need new kitchen cupboard doors.

For Andy Prior and his wife Julie, renovating their dated kitchen was a dream come true.

The original kitchen, built back in 2000, had features such as a roller shutter cabinet and several fussy glass fronted cabinets that didn’t provide the functionality that Andy and Julie needed.

Lacking essential storage, their aim was to increase space and update the look.

Initially, Andy and Julie thought of simply getting the kitchen cabinets sprayed, updating the Olive Green kitchen for a more modern colour whilst also adding a couple more cabinets to get the extra space.

They received a quote which, although pricey, they decided to go with. However, for Andy there was a nagging voice in the back of his head saying that they weren’t doing the right thing.

At the last minute Andy did some research and came across Cutshop® and after a meeting with the team at Cutshop® North Shore discovered that they could replace all the doors plus add extra cabinets that replaced the oven tower for a price that was cheaper than spraying!

In the beginning of the design process, Andy and Julie were after a simple update with a contemporary coloured melamine for the cabinet doors from one of the major suppliers, however whilst looking at hinges at one of the manufacturer showrooms, they came across a high gloss acrylic in charcoal that looked amazing and they knew nothing else came close.

Why Cutshop®

For Andy and Julie, the benefits of working with Cutshop® was as simple as saving money. Combined with plenty of advice on how to approach Andy’s first kitchen renovation and lots of suggestions for a huge range of alternative options. Andy really appreciated all the help he received from start to finish.

Armed initially with a simple hand drawing, being able to go home and sit with Julie over the computerised plans and make minor alterations was brilliant for Andy. Once they were happy with the final designs, the team at Cutshop® North Shore sourced the material and cut it accurately.

I cannot praise these guys highly enough for their guidance and help on design, their speed, and their support, in a word their professionalism. I had a hiccup which was out of the control of the Cutshop and they saw it through and kept on at the supplier until it was resolved, they bent over backwards to make sure it was sorted. I always say the measure of a company is how it conducts itself when things go wrong and these guys nailed it for service, I couldn’t fault them!

The Final Result

For Andy and Julie, the final result was more than they could have hoped for!

For Andy this was his first kitchen renovation that he did himself and is very proud of what he has achieved. With brand new cabinet doors and reusing the original carcasses was a great way to truly update an old and tired kitchen.

Top tips for budding DIY kitchen renovators:

It takes longer than you think, and the small things like hinges and handles cost a lot, budget for them. Make sure you have a clear idea of what you want to achieve.
