Sleek ‘n stylish cafe fitout

When Veda Gu and husband Taylor Tao decided to open their own café they knew it had to stand out from the norm.

The pair introduced The Corner Café to Rototuna North in Hamilton in November 2021.

Featuring specialty coffee, house-made mocktails and an all-day brunch menu, it’s easy to see why they quickly built a loyal following.

But there’s something else about the Corner Café that has got customers talking…

The building’s polished concrete floors, marble benchtops and stand-out artwork complement each other perfectly to create a comfortable, warm atmosphere. The ceiling artwork alone was done by the owners with a jig saw which would have taken ages but looks great!

Cutshop is proud to be part of the couple’s unique interior fit out - a sleek and stylish counter, used to greet customers and display a delicious array of cabinet food.

It was really important to get right! I never wanted a random café, we wanted to be able to express ourselves through our design.

The couple engaged Cutshop to help with their vision, after a designer came up with some options of how the main counter and cabinets might look.

They wanted thick material, at least 40mm in height, and after looking at some options they decided on Carrera Marble Formica and Storm Formica from Laminex to form a great looking two-tone aesthetics.

The team at Hamilton Laminates made the waterfall benchtop from plans provided by Cutshop Waikato to fit the space nice and snug.

Space for storage was an important part of the design. In a busy café, organization is key. Open shelving to maximise accessibility without the hassle to open (and then close again!) doors and drawers, and a custom ice cooler cupboard.

“There was no problem with how we wanted it done. The guys were nice so we thought yeah, let’s give Cutshop a try," says Veda.

“We have lots of customers tell us they really like the design,” says Veda, who is particularly fond of how the two different coloured benchtops complement each other to create aesthetic appeal.

Veda says she wouldn’t hesitate to use Cutshop again in future.

The end result was everything I expected!! I don’t need to worry about the final product.
