A New Build’s Bespoke Cabinetry in Auckland
Working with Cutshop® enabled homeowners Wade and Stefanie to realise their dream of bespoke cabinetry throughout their newly built 127sqm, 3-bedroom, 2 bathroom home. Designed by Wade - including all the cabinetry - this home is a showcase of smart, stylish and cost-effective design.
“We wanted to create bespoke cabinetry that looked ‘expensive’ whilst being incredibly cost-effective, carefully tailored to our brief and was an efficient and elegant use of the available space.”
This was Wade’s third time collaborating with Cutshop®, having worked with us previously as a designer and on a personal renovation project on the same property. “It was a no-brainer to work with Cutshop® again for this project.”

Custom Cabinetry Design
Wade designed cabinetry for every key area of the home, including the:
Kitchen & walk-in pantry
Laundry
Living room bench seat
Bathroom + ensuite vanities & cupboards
Built-in wardrobe for the main bedroom
Selecting Cabinetry Materials
When selecting their materials through Cutshop®, Wade and Stefanie mostly opted for Canadian White Oak timber veneer on poplar core from Plymasters “for the warmth and beautiful patterning of the oak grain - but at an affordable price!”. The oak was then stained with a tinted Osmo oil to highlight the grain. They also painted the kitchen island in a way that helped the texture shine through.
The pair chose to edge tape the cabinet doors and drawer fronts in a matching oak veneer, creating a beautiful, consistent finish.
For their internal carcasses, they decided on 18mm plywood: “again, cost-effective, but better long-term performance than MDF.”
Their custom wardrobe is an 18mm MDF with a 3-coat paint system finish.
And their hardware go-to? Blum.
Working with Cutshop®
“The main benefit from using Cutshop® is the affordability - the same cabinetry manufactured by a joiner would have been beyond us, and having full control over the materials and finishes means you get a far superior result for a fraction of the cost.”
“The process with Cutshop® is so straightforward and simple. The job was quoted from my cabinetry drawings and basic specifications, and the final cost was within this quote. Cutshop® have a robust system in place for reviewing and modifying shop drawings to ensure everything is covered, and are very flexible. They were happy to work together on detail and material elements to keep the cost down. They were very happy to assist with any small add-ons that came up during installation.”
“Cutshop® is a fantastic service, and the North Shore team are lovely to work with. For designers, they are a fantastic tool to bring your vision to life in an incredibly cost-effective manner.”
The Final Result
“We are chuffed with how the cabinetry turned out! It is a stand-out feature of each room and brings warmth, texture and elegance to the otherwise simple spaces.”
The project's success is further highlighted by its nomination as a finalist for the HOME magazine 'Interior of the Year' awards in the 'Resene Colour' category.
