At Cutshop, we see ourselves as part of your team.  The fast track to eliminating errors at cutting stage often comes down to us working together to get the brief right first time. 

Some tradies give us detailed customer plans – and it’s fantastic to get an overview of the whole job.  However, customer plans rarely have all the nitty gritty dimensions and details that we need.

There can be a lot left to assumption – and assumption can lead to misinterpretation and errors.

Extracting data from incomplete plans can add hours of work to a job and increase the chance of mistakes being made – so how can we cut out the guesswork?

Right at the outset, the best way to provide a brief is to supply us with a list of panels and cabinets you need cut, making sure we have the dimensions, details, edging requirements and any variations to accommodate power points and plumbing.

Classic mistakes to avoid.

• Edging:

  • We often get told to edge ‘one short and one long’.  The definition of which edge is the short or long one is sometimes not as simple as it seems — especially when working with single sided material and patterns/woodgrains!  By including the measurements of the side that is to be edged, potential problems can be avoided.

• Cabinet dimensions:

  • Two cabinets sitting side by side may look identical but variations due to plumbing or power point positioning can create small but significant differences in the measurements.

• Woodgrain:

  • Remember to always let us know the direction of the grain (vertical or horizontal).

• Benchtops:

  • Note whether benchtops overhang door panels or sit flush.
