Outdoor Kitchens
Custom-cut Just For Your House
An outdoor kitchen is more than a spot for the barbecue. It's a cooking and entertaining space designed around how you live, how you host and how you cook. Outdoor kitchens are a game changer here in New Zealand. Every balmy summer evening from now on you’ll be wondering how you ever put up with cooking inside.
Standard BBQs are fine, but outdoor kitchens are built for more than sausages. Whether you're planning a built-in BBQ island, a covered alfresco kitchen off the living room, a pizza oven bench, or a compact setup for a townhouse courtyard, Cutshop® gives you complete flexibility over how every centimetre is used.

I just turned up at the premises with two kitchen cabinet inserts which needed to be trimmed down for my new fridge to fit the gap. Lovely friendly people, did the job almost immediately, and at a very fair price. Just perfect!
Amazing people, friendly, nice, extremely professional and very helpful. Strongly recommended!
Really helpful with the design and amendments to my kitchen cabinet project. Excellent quick turnaround, and great dimensional accuracy!
No more having to compromise with standard sizes you have to make fit. Precision cut so perfect it’s amazing, with a huge choice of quality materials and hardware. Friendly and helpful with design and really smart software that minimises waste.
A fabulous way to get a 5 star kitchen at an affordable price! The quality of the cabinets is excellent, and having complete design flexibility is a huge bonus. They even arranged out-of-town delivery for us, and sourced our drawer handles and rubbish bins for us. Would highly recommend their services.

Delivery or Pickup
Your custom outdoor kitchen components arrive clearly labelled and ready to assemble, delivered anywhere in NZ. Prefer to collect? You're welcome to pick up from your local Cutshop® factory.
Materials & Finishes
When building cabinetry outdoors, material choice is about more than just looks. New Zealand's strong UV, salty coastal air, humidity and sudden downpours are tough on cabinetry, so your outdoor kitchen needs panels and hardware made for exterior use. Every Cutshop® outdoor kitchen is cut from StyleLex® weatherproof panels, a complete panel system designed for outdoor entertaining areas.
Why Stylex?
Standard melamine-faced MDF or particle board is an indoor material, put it outside and it’s lifespan is dramatically reduced. Stylex cabinetry stands up to the wear and tear of the outdoor environment.

Harsh Sunlight
Choose finishes rated for exterior use so colours don't fade under the Kiwi sun.
Moisture
Use exterior-grade panels, and lift cabinetry off the ground on feet so water never pools at the base.
Corrosion
In coastal areas, choose marine-grade stainless steel hardware and fixings.

Components:
Designing a custom outdoor kitchen with Cutshop® means you get to choose exactly what goes into it. Rather than accepting a standard layout, you can create a cooking and entertaining space built around your appliances and the way you like to host.
Cooking Zone
Usually a built-in BBQ or pizza oven is the centrepiece of an NZ outdoor kitchen. Cabinetry can be cut to your BBQ's exact size, with room for side burners and a rangehood. Or shape your cabinetry around a pizza oven. There are no rules to what you can and can’t fit. If you want it all, we can do that too.
Storage
Keep everything you need outside: utensils, platters, cleaning gear, charcoal, firewood and BBQ covers. Drawers suit smaller items, while deeper cupboards handle bulkier items like pots and pans.
Prep Space
Generous bench space either side of the grill makes outdoor cooking easier and safer. Plan landing space for platters, a prep zone near the sink, and a serving or bar area where guests can gather without getting in the cook's way. Your cabinetry can be designed to suit stone, stainless steel or compact laminate benchtops.
Appliances
Whether you're housing an outdoor fridge, a sink, or a bin pull-out, panels can be cut to your exact specifications and finished to match the rest of your outdoor kitchen. Custom cutting means your outdoor kitchen dimensions aren't limited to what's on the shelf.
Sizing:
What Are the Right Dimensions for Your Outdoor Kitchen?
Custom cutting means your outdoor kitchen isn’t limited to whats for sale at retail stores. Outdoor cabinetry can be cut to fit your deck, patio or backyard no matter the size or shape.
A few key measurements to consider before you start:
Bench height: Outdoor prep benches typically sit at 900–920mm, matching most indoor kitchens. Bar and leaner benches sit higher, usually around 1050–1100mm.
Width: Custom panels can be cut to any width. Plan the run around your appliances, and leave landing space on both sides of the BBQ for platters and utensils, ideally 400mm or more.
Depth: A standard 600mm depth suits most prep benches. BBQ islands often need to be deeper to fit a built-in BBQ, so check your BBQ's cut-out dimensions before you set the depth.
Clearances: Leave around 1000mm of walkway where people pass behind the cook. Check your BBQ manufacturer's minimum clearances to walls, roofs and combustible materials.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
It depends on what's included. Outdoor cabinetry on its own generally isn't building work that needs consent, but connecting water, drainage or fixed gas, or adding a roofed structure like a pergola, can bring in consent or certification requirements. Gasfitting must be done by a licensed gasfitter and electrical work by a licensed electrician. Check with your local council before you start.
-
Outdoor cabinetry needs exterior-rated panels that stand up to moisture, UV and temperature changes. Standard indoor melamine and MDF aren't designed for outdoor exposure. In coastal areas, pair your panels with marine-grade stainless steel hardware to prevent rust. Cutshop® has a full range of appropriate outdoor materials and hardware. Come in to one of our factories to check it out.
-
Yes. Include your appliance manufacturer's cut-out dimensions and installation specifications with your order, and panels will be cut to suit. We recommend choosing your appliances before you finalise your design.
-
At minimum, you'll need rough dimensions for your space (length, depth and bench height), your chosen appliances, and a basic idea of your layout. The more detail you can provide, the more accurate your quote will be. A quick sketch is always helpful too.
-
Yes. Orders can be collected from any Cutshop® location. Cutshop® has factories in North Shore, Mt Wellington, and Waikato.
-
Wipe surfaces down with mild soapy water, keep a cover on your BBQ when it's not in use, clear leaves and debris from around the base, and check hinges and fixings once a season, especially if you live near the coast. But rest assured your kitchen will be made from durable hardwearing materials that won’t deteriorate quickly.
-
Pre-drilling is available as part of Cutshop®'s service. Holes can be specified for construction, hardware placement, hinges, handles, and cut-outs. Just include your drilling requirements when submitting your order.
